HVAC Repair in Santa Clara County, CA

The short answer

CoolVantage AC Repair fixes air conditioners, furnaces, and heat pumps across Santa Clara County, from Mountain View and Milpitas down to Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Bay Area Air District rules don't require you to replace working equipment, so repairing a system with life left in it is still a sound choice.

CoolVantage AC Repair is based in San Jose and handles heating and cooling repairs throughout Santa Clara County. Your central air might quit on a hot afternoon in Morgan Hill, or your furnace might not light on a damp January morning in Mountain View. Either way, we diagnose the problem, explain what we found in plain terms, and fix it. Below is what to expect, along with what's worth knowing about local rules before you decide between repair and replacement.

How the South Bay climate affects your system

The Santa Clara Valley has a Mediterranean climate, with dry summers and mild, damp winters. Inland and southern parts of the valley, like Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy, run noticeably hotter in summer than communities closer to the Bay, such as Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and Milpitas. Air conditioners in the south county often work longer and harder. Systems near the Bay may sit idle for weeks and then struggle on the first hot stretch.

Winters rarely bring extreme cold, but furnaces and heat pumps still see steady use on chilly nights. Damp weather can also expose drainage and airflow problems.

Common repairs we handle

Most calls come down to a handful of problems. We check the whole system rather than swapping parts until something works.

  • AC running but blowing warm air
  • System short-cycling or not turning on at all
  • Furnace ignition, pilot, or flame sensor problems
  • Heat pumps stuck in one mode or icing up
  • Refrigerant leaks and reduced cooling
  • Thermostat and wiring faults
  • Clogged condensate drains and water around the indoor unit
  • Weak airflow, noisy blowers, and uneven room temperatures

Repair or replace? What local rules mean for you

The Bay Area Air District's appliance rules do not require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. Repairing a system that still has life left in it is a perfectly reasonable choice.

Planning ahead still helps. Under the Air District's furnace rule, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when they replace a furnace after that date. If your furnace is aging, we can talk through how that timing affects your decision. Small water heaters have a separate zero-NOx date, set for 2027, and the Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it. Check the current rule before planning a water heater replacement.

Incentives: what's available now

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for installations after that date. Local programs may still help. BayREN and your local clean energy provider offer heat pump and electrification incentives, but amounts and availability change by funding cycle. We confirm the current offer before including it in any quote.

  3. Respect for your home

We protect floors, clean up after ourselves, and leave the work area the way we found it. Before we leave, we walk you through what we did and how your system should run.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (302) 712-5037 and we’ll talk it through.

Do you repair both heating and cooling systems?

Yes. We repair central air conditioners, gas furnaces, and heat pumps, along with the thermostats, wiring, drains, and airflow components that keep them running.

Will I be required to replace my gas furnace because of new Air District rules?

No. The Bay Area Air District rules don't require replacing working equipment. They apply only when a furnace fails or is replaced. Gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx standard, which matters mainly when you're choosing a replacement.

Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

The federal 25C credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for installations after that date. BayREN and local clean energy providers may offer incentives, and we confirm current offers before quoting them.

Why does my AC struggle more in Morgan Hill or Gilroy than near the Bay?

Inland and southern parts of the Santa Clara Valley run noticeably hotter in summer than areas near the Bay. Systems there run longer, which puts more strain on parts like capacitors, fans, and refrigerant lines.

Should I repair or replace my system?

It depends on the system's age, its condition, and what failed. We explain what we find and lay out your options, including how local rules on gas furnaces might affect timing, so you can decide.

Which Santa Clara County communities do you serve?

We serve Los Gatos, Campbell, East Foothills, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Lexington Hills, Saratoga, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Cupertino, San Martin, Sunnyvale, Loyola, Los Altos, Mountain View, and Gilroy.
