About us

Straightforward HVAC Work for South Bay Homes

CoolVantage AC Repair works on heating and cooling systems in homes across San Jose and the surrounding South Bay. Most of our days are spent diagnosing systems that stopped working or started acting up: an air conditioner blowing warm air on a hot afternoon, a furnace that won't light on a cold morning, a heat pump that keeps cycling. We start by finding the actual cause, then explain it in plain terms and lay out your options, including whether a repair makes more sense than a replacement. When replacement is the right call, we install central AC, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and furnaces sized for your house rather than guessed from the old unit's label. The Santa Clara Valley's dry summers and mild, damp winters put different demands on equipment depending on where you live, and inland neighborhoods run hotter than spots near the Bay. We factor that in. Our goal is a system that keeps your home comfortable and that you understand.

More about how we work

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Clear explanations

We show you what's wrong, tell you why it happened, and answer your questions in plain language. You shouldn't need HVAC experience to make a good decision about your own system.

  2. Options, not pressure

If a repair will keep your equipment running well, we'll say so. If replacement makes more sense, we'll walk you through why and what your choices are, including heat pump and ductless options.

  3. Respect for your home

We protect floors, clean up after ourselves, and leave the work area the way we found it. Before we leave, we walk you through what we did and how your system should run.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (302) 712-5037 and we’ll talk it through.

Do the new Bay Area rules mean I have to replace my gas furnace?

No. The Bay Area Air District's appliance rules don't require you to replace working equipment. They only apply when an existing furnace fails or is replaced. Gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx emission standard, which in practice points homeowners toward heat pumps when they replace a furnace after that date. If your furnace is getting older, it's worth thinking about your options before it fails.

Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for new installations after that date. Bay Area homeowners can still check BayREN and their local clean energy provider for heat pump and electrification incentives. Those programs change by funding cycle, so we confirm what's currently offered before including it in a quote.

Should I repair my air conditioner or replace it?

It depends on the age and condition of the system, what failed, how often it's needed repairs, and how well it's been keeping your home comfortable. We'll tell you what we find and give you both options when both are reasonable. A single failed part on an otherwise healthy system is often worth repairing.

How often should my heating and cooling system be serviced?

Most homes do well with a yearly checkup on each system. A good time for AC or heat pump service is before summer heat arrives, and furnace service is best done before the cooler, damp months. Since a heat pump handles both heating and cooling, it works year-round and benefits from regular attention.

Is a ductless mini-split a good fit for my home?

Ductless mini-splits work well for additions, converted garages, rooms that never stay comfortable, and homes without existing ductwork. They heat and cool, and each indoor unit can be set separately. We'll look at your layout and tell you whether ductless, a ducted heat pump, or a mix makes the most sense.

Why is one part of my house always hotter or colder than the rest?

Common causes include leaky or poorly sized ducts, blocked returns, a system that's the wrong size for the house, and rooms with a lot of sun or little insulation. Homes in the hotter inland and southern parts of the valley often notice it most in summer. We check the system and ductwork to find the cause before suggesting a fix.

Do I need my ducts cleaned?

Not every home does. Duct cleaning can help if you see dust blowing from vents, have had recent construction or remodeling, notice musty smells, or find debris or pest activity in the ducts. We can inspect your ducts and let you know whether cleaning, sealing or another air quality step would make a real difference.

What areas do you serve?

We work throughout San Jose and in nearby communities including Los Gatos, Campbell, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Scotts Valley, Los Altos and Mountain View.
